NOTEBOOKS – George Ivanoff

As an author, I am forever writing notes.

Random notes on my Notes App.

I have a crappy memory, so when I come up with an idea, I need to write it down straight away… otherwise I risk losing it. And I have lost ideas, many times. As a result, I now carry a notebook with me most of the time. When I don’t have a notebook with me, and I get an idea, I’ll use the Notes App on my phone.

I also keep a notepad on my bedside table. Some of my best ideas have come to me as I’m lying in bed starting to fall asleep. Mind you, deciphering those notes in the morning can be quite difficult. I’ll usually write them in the dark because I don’t want to disturb my wife by switching on the light.

As well as my general notebook, I have a specific notebook for each book I write. That’s where I do all my brainstorming. Plot points, concepts, characters, snippets of dialogue and maps go into those notebooks helping me to sort through the mish-mash of ideas bouncing around inside my brain.

I’ll write in any sort of notebook – lined or blank; fancy cover with cute cat pics, or plain.  But I do love this notebook cover a friend made for me…

What sort of notebook do you like using?

Tune in next time to find out about planning.
