MEDIA TIE-IN – George Ivanoff

Media tie-in fiction is any story that is connected to an existing film, television series, game, comic or other type of media. Just like all those Doctor Who books I told you about in my last post. I’ve read lots of media tie-in, from Star Wars to Guardians of the Galaxy to The X-Files.Media tie-in books.

Have you read any media tie-in books? There are so many out there to choose from.

I’ve also been lucky enough to write some tie-in fiction… which is SUPER EXCITING when you’re a fan of the universe you’re writing in. I’ve written short stories and books set in the worlds of Doctor Who, The X-Files, a radio series called Night Terrace and a comic book called Deadworld.

Media tie-in books by George Ivanoff.

This type of writing is quite different from writing something that you have created yourself. You are using a world and characters created by someone else. It’s like playing in someone else’s sandbox, so you have to play by their rules. You can’t kill off characters. You can’t make any major changes to the world. And your story has to be approved by whoever owns the copyright for the world and characters.

But it is HEAPS OF FUN!

What world would you write in, if you had the chance?

Where to from here? You’ve probably seen movie trailers before… but what about book trailers? I’ll tell you about them in my next post.
