HELLO – George Ivanoff

George IvanoffHey there, everyone! My name is George Ivanoff and I’m here to blog at you for the next month. But before I get stuck into the meaty posts about reading and writing, I thought it might be a good idea to introduce myself and give you all a bit of info about me.

I am 55 years old. I have one wife and two kids, and we share our household with numerous animals…

  • 6 chickens — Miss Merriweather, Dorothy, Teri, Suki, Bok and The Countess Dandelion.
  • 2 two cats — Sutekh and Seraphina
  • 1 rat — Koby

Up until a few weeks ago, I had really long hair. But then I had it cut off and donated to the Cancer Council’s PONYTAIL PROJECT so that it could be made into wigs for cancer patients.

My all-time fave movie is E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial. I think that Doctor Who is, without doubt, the greatest television series ever made; and Pet Shop Boys are the most talented pop duo ever to walk the face of this earth. I don’t have a favourite book, ‘cause there are waaaaaaay too many amazing books out there and I just can’t make up my mind which one I like the best.

My first book, Life, Death and Detention, was published way back in 1999. It’s a collection of short stories about life in high school. Since then I’ve had 136 books published. But don’t get too excited by that number. I write a lot of school readers — those short, little books that younger school kids get to take home with them to practice their reading. Some of those books are under a hundred words, so they don’t take as long to write as a 45,000 word novel.

I’m probably best known for writing the interactive You Choose books, so I’ll be devoting a blog post to how I go about planning and writing one of those books. But I’ve written lots of stuff, including fiction and non-fiction. And I’ve got a new book coming out later this year called Monster Island.

Okay, that’s probably enough for now. If you want to know more about me, you could always check out my website.

Stay tuned for my next post, about how I transformed from being a reluctant reader into an avid reader.
