I’m a HUGE fan of the television series Doctor Who. I’ve been watching it since I was ten years old. I’ve also been reading Doctor Who books since I discovered that I actually liked reading.
My favourite Doctor Who author is Terrance Dicks, and my favourite of his books is Doctor Who and the Dalek Invasion of Earth. I reckon this book has one of the best opening sentences ever written…

Over the years I’ve collected over a hundred Doctor Who books. As a kid I wrote a fan letter to the publisher of the books. And they sent me a promotional banner that still lives on the top of my bookshelf that’s dedicated to Doctor Who books, DVDs and toys.
As a writer, I find Doctor Who inspiring. I’ll often read one of the books or watch one of the episodes and have it spark off ideas that I’ll end up using in my own stories. And I’ve hidden a Doctor Who reference in most of my books… all except the educational ones. Can you find the reference on this page from You Choose: The Treasure of Dead-Man’s Cove?
When I was a kid, I used to write lots of Doctor Who fan fiction. It was really bad, but it taught me an important lesson… that writing could be fun. If I had not learned that lesson, I don’t think I’d have ended up being an author.
