(CLUBHOUSE TIME MACHINE: 9/3/2021) Where do you write? – Oliver Phommavanh

Hello WestWords kids!

One of the best things about being a writer is that you can write anywhere…and I mean anywhere!

I spend most of time writing from home. Here is a picture of my desk 🙂

But I also like to travel and write in random places too. All I need is my notebook or laptop. I enjoy writing in noisy places such as airports, cafes and libraries (yes, libraries can be noisy, trust me haha). I guess I like being surrounded by people because they might say something that could spark an idea for a line or character. I also enjoy writing on planes too. There’s nothing like being cooped up in your seat, staring at the screen, the words seem to flow haha.

A few years ago, I tried writing near the water during the Byron Bay Writers Festival a few years ago…I was kind of scared to use my laptop near the pool, but it was fun trying something new 🙂

Now if you are stuck for writing ideas, I would suggest that you try writing in a NEW place. So if you’ve never written outside before, go for it! Or if you’ve never written on your bed, try it! You never know what could happen to your story. You may be surprised where it takes you…

So how about you? Where is your favourite place to write?

Is it at your desk? Or in class, surrounded by your friends and classmates? Maybe you like to go outside and write on a park bench. Or at the bus-stop? Let me know 🙂

Oliver
