Name That Horse! – Emily Gale

Elsewhere Girls came out in 2021, written by me and Nova Weetman and published by Text. It’s a time-slip and body-swap novel about two swimmers: a girl called Cat Feeney who lives in Sydney in 2021, and a girl called Fanny Durack who lives in Sydney in 1908. They swap times and bodies when they both swim in the same ocean bath – Wylie’s Baths in Coogee, aided by a stopwatch with a mysteriously spinning hand.

Right now we’re writing another time-slip novel together. The story will be set in a different time and place, with different characters, and while we can’t give many details away yet, we do have one special task for a young reader out there:

COULD YOU GIVE US A GREAT NAME FOR A HORSE?

We will choose ONE horse name to be in the book, and whoever gives us the name will also have their own name in the “Thank You” part of the book (also known as the Acknowledgments).

To enter:

  1. Open to any young person in Australia between the ages of 8 & 14.
  2. Comment below with a HORSE NAME you think we should include in our story.
  3. Leave your own name too so that if we choose your horse name, we can thank you!
  4. You do not need to own a horse or have ever ridden a horse to enter this competition!

You have from today until the end of June to send us a horse name.

Good luck and thank you very much for helping us out.

Until next time,

Emily

Chessy or Queenie for a female, maybe Captain or Whisper for a male? Sorry – I don’t know how many we were allowed to suggest. If I had to go with one, maybe Chessy?
